Cub Summer Camp 2018 was a huge success!
We may have been few in number but we enjoyed a huge amount in the 4 days we were away. We built fires, cooked our own meals and slept in shelters & tents. We journeyed into Oxford, explored the natural history museum, cruised on the Thames and went swimming. We hope you all had a fantastic time! 😁

A huge THANK YOU to the Cubs who came, to the Leaders that gave their free time and to the Parents for supporting us. Enjoy the photos of our adventures and we’ll see you all back at Cubs on the 10th! ⚜️

Last week we enjoyed some Climbing and Abseiling at Scout Adventures Youlbury, facing our fears, smiling and laughing through the rain. We also said goodbye to our Australian volunteer Caitlin who is leaving the UK to travel Europe before heading home. A few tears were shed as we all wished her good luck on her adventure and a huge thank you for all her time and effort this year.
 
After one “Goodbye” came six “Hello’s” as we welcomed six new Cubs to our open evening this week. They got to know everyone through a mix of activities including code breaking and circuit making! The Scouts spent their evening outside at the fire circle learning how to safely use Axes, Knives and Saws, to carve useful camping objects.

If you know a young person aged 8-10.5 (Cubs), 10.5-14 (Scouts) who would like to join, or an adult interested in getting involved as a volunteer leader please get in touch! 🙂

Our first night back after the summer break saw the newly reopened Scout Troop meet alongside the Cub Pack, working together to clear out the stream of sticks and dams. Everyone got stuck in and ended the night wet, muddy and smiling including the 4 new faces joining us for their first night at Cubs! 🙂

Over the weekend leaders, young people, parents and supporters of 24th Abingdon Scout Group gathered at the hall. As a team they took on the mammoth tasks of cutting back the trees that had overgrown the campfire circle, clearing the car park storage bays, cleaning and staining our new front decking, strimming nettles and brambles from the field edges and many other smaller jobs. Everyone really pulled together and achieved a great deal in the short time we had, a huge thank you goes out to everyone who gave their time it really has made a difference! 🙂

At 24th Abingdon we’ve had a great start to 2017. We’ve been out and about exploring, doing adventurous activities and learning about cultures and places all over the globe. We’ve joined thousands of others at Oxonjam County Camp and cooked lots of tasty treats over the campfire. Here’s a taste of our 2017 so far, bring on the summer!

Another evening of fun in the sun at Cubs yesterday as we finished off the Backwoods Cooking Badge with two international dishes cooked on fire!
Cubs prepared all the ingredients needed for a USA favorite, ‘Sloppy Joe’s’ and a classic Auzzie dessert ‘Bog in a Bag’! For more snaps of our culinary creations visit the Gallery 🙂

Tonight Cubs took advantage of the sunny weather and went for a hike to Dry Sandford Pit to explore the wildlife and geology there. We found Jurassic fossils in the cliffs, crazy forest plants and conquered a small island in the name of the Pack!
